Sunday Sept 13
Antoher week has passed and I shall retain
my situation, in fact I begin to feel myself
permanentely established. I appear to give
general satisfaction and feel quite con-
tented, although my duties are very humble.
I am principally engaged in the [hot?]-pressing
department and my work requires no
mental effort whatever, in fact this is
my only objection to it as it affords me
too much opportunity of thinking; too much
of which is not good either for body or
mind. Last evening we took a stroll through
Deptford and Greenwich to see the sights.
Saturday evening in our English town is
almost like a fair. If the weather be
fine almost everybody is out and the
streets are crowded with people of all
sorts and conditions and all is life
and activity. There are street vendors
of all descriptions from the gardener with
his plants at a [?] a [?] or [?]
