long walk over the Surrey Hills and along
the line of the South Eastern railway.
A very pleasant evening and enjoyed
it very much. As we walked alongside of
the railway we had an opportunity of seeing
the trains pass; a great number of which
passed in the course of a few minutes.
They travel at a very high rate of speed
and great precautions are taken to prevent
accidents, the signals used are white green
and red lights and form a very pretty
feature in the landscape. After walking
two or three miles we brought up at
a little country inn called Brockley
