Friday Aug. 21st 1863
Strolled about as usual all morning but
as my thoughts turn almost altogether upon
the necessity of finding some emoloyment I
don't seem to take any interest in any thing
else. This morning I walked up the Strand
past Somerset House a noble building used
for Government Offices. Returned in time
for dinner. This afternoon my cousin Thomas
having business at Croydon I have the
pleasure of accompanying him. Croydon is
quite a large town situated about ten
miles south of London. We made the journey
in a very light cart called a trap, and as
the afternoon was delightfully fine we had
a very pleasant time. We had a distant
view of the celebrated Crystal Palace at
Sydenham about six miles from London.
We reached home quite late in the
evening, after which we had to take our
usual nightly journey to New Cross.

Saturday Aug. 22nd
Strolled about pretty much all day on the
lookout for something to do a thing
