Dunn and I took a walk and visited
St. Paul's Cathedral. We spent a considerable
time wandering about this huge building, inspecting
the monuments with which the walls are
covered. But a very small portion of the
Cathedral is fitted up for Divine Service
and here at four o'clock service began
which we attended. It merely consisted
of Evening Prayer and was intoned or sung
by the minister and choristers or boys
dressed in white surplices and was very
solemn. It did not appear to be very
well attended and the congregation
seemed to consist principally of strangers
like myself or people who did not
know what else to do with themselves, and
who apparantly just [lounged?] here to pass an hour
or so away. We did not stop long after ser-
vice was over but returned home in time
for tea. After tea I spent an hour or two
in learning Cribbage with Mrs. Dunn as
my teacher. After supper at half past
eight, Thomas and I returned to his
house at New Cross, my temporary sleeping place.
