not stop long in this Babel but passing the
Custom House, another immense but very
plain building situated like Billingsgate on
the river side. We came to the Tower of London
but as it was too early to gain admittance
we were obliged to content ourselves with
an outside view. From the outisde, it
presents a most irregular appearance being
a collection of building of all sorts and
sizes and of all ages from the ancient
feudal castle to the modern dwelling
and warehouse. The Tower is sur-
rounded by a moat which my cousin
informed me could be filled with water
from the river if desirable. Leaving a
further inspection of the dingy, gloomy
looking old building till another time,
we reached Fenchurch at where I left
my trunk yesterday and which we now
took away with us to my uncle's. After
breakfast I took a very long walk through
the crowded crooked streets, and returned
