a man to direct me which were to be in waiting
early in the morning. At nine o'clock
the barge pulled up alongside of the
ship and I at once proceded to get the
things ashore. After a great deal of diffi-
culty, I got them examined and passed
which of course was a great relief to
me, and we pitched them into the barge
and pulled off. In a few minutes time
after threading our way among the innumer-
able barges with which the Dock was
filled we reached the wharf. But here
again they would not allow us to pass
the gate until we had received
final paper from the Dock Keeper, which
after about an hours delay we obtained
after paying a small fee. We were now free
of the Dock and in a very short time
we reached the Public House and I deliver-
ed the goods to their owner the Sailor.
I now returned to the ship and addressed
myslef to the task of getting my things
ashmore. I did not [mark?] having [succeed or success?] till
about two o'clock at which hour was landed
