at a salary of $1.000.00. which motion was duly seconded.
Mr Whiley moved that said resolution
be so amended that a Committee of three be appointed by the
Chair to request the Ohio Legislature to pay the expenses of
the Chair of Forrestry named in said resolution, which
amendment to said motion was duly seconded and adopted, and
[inserted] Forrestry [end inserted] upon motion duly seconded said motion as amended was
duly adopted by the Board, and thereupon the Chair appointed
as the Committee called for by the said motion as amended
Messrs Whiley Lene Welch and Hamblin .
President Ellis having vacated the Chair and retired
from the room E.J Jones was called to the Chair ,and
thereupon Mr Hamblin read. to the Board - the following
resolution to wit:
[Reelection
of
Pres. Ellis
and Salary [end inserted] "Resolved:- That the Board of Trustees of
the Ohio University , in recognition of the efficient services
of Dr Alston. Ellis, as its President ,hereby re-elects him
as its President for the term of three years from August-1st. 1903
at and annual salay of ($3.500.00) thirty five hundred
dollars.", and moved its adoption which motion was duly seconded.
Major. Welch moved that said resolution be laid upon the
table which motion was not seconded.
[inserted] Substitute [end inserted] Mr Wood moved as
a substitute for said resolution the following resolution
to wit: [crossed out] ,, [end crossed out] "Expressing our appreciation of the efficient services
of Dr Ellis as President of this Institution, and our belief that
his services will be required by the Board for Several years to
come, and our gratification that his present term does
not expire until August 1st 1904 we favor the election
of his successor not later than March- 1st. 1904: and
moved its adoption, and a ballot was taken upon said
substitute of the resolution offered by Mr Hamblin: which
resulted in a vote of yeas 4- nays 11 and thereupon the
Chair declared that substitute has been lost. On
motion of Judge Coultrap duly seconded and adopted said
resolution offere by Mr Hamblin was unanimously
adopted by the Board.
