The architects estimate of the new
Normal School building of the Ohio University was $46.999.60
After the consideration ,and careful canvassing of the eight
proposals received Mr Lene offered the following resolutions
"Resolved that the proposal of George M Schneider to construct
the normal school building for the total sum of $46.913.07,
according to plans and specifications be accepted ,and that
a contract be entered into with said George M Schneider
,as the lowest bidder, the consideration therefor not to be
paid until the appropriation under the Seese Bill levy
become available , not less however, than $25.000.00. to be
paid said contractor prior to Sept 15th 1903, beginning March 15th
1903 ,and payable thereafter as the work progresses in monthly
payments in accordance with the estimate.
Resolved; That the President and Secretary be empowered
to enter into said contract for and on behalf of the
Board of Trustees of the Corporation of the Ohio University",
and moved there adoption, which motion was duly
seconded ,and the yeas and nays being demanded, a call
of the roll was had resulting in the following vote to wit:
Yeas-Ellis-Jewett-Lene, Benson, Jones, Bundy, Wood, Foster,
and O'Bleness-yeas-9. Nays_Welch_nayes one: and thereupon
the Chair declared that said resolutions had been duly adopted
by a majority of all the members of the Board present at this
meeting ,and by a legal quorum of this Board ,and that said
bid is the lowest and best regular bid within the Architects estimate
of costs and the architect was instructed to draw up a contract
conforming to the Statutes of the State covering public buildings
