saving in money and bringing up in more
frequent contact with those whose patronage and
friendly offices we desire to solicit.
On February 18th 1904
will occur the 100th anniversary of the establishment
of Ohio University, at Athens, by act of the Legislature
of Ohio. The territorial Act of January 9th 1902 instituted
and establish in the town of Athens, a University; but
our institution really owes its name and existence
to the Legislative Act beofre named. I seems to me
desirable that some appropriate celebration be held on
February 18th, 1904. If any special note is to be made
of Ohio University's centennial, the present is a time
none too early to being preparatory work.
The selection
of all University employees is a subject of vital importance
to the Welfare of the institution. Scarcely less so is
the fixing of the compensation to be paid for services
rendered. Another important work is the setting apart
of appropriations for use of the different departments,
including the library. Brief reports from
different members of the Faculty have been placed
in my hands and are not subject to your pleasure
All of which is respectfully Submitted
Alston. Ellis.
President of the Ohio University.
President Ellis read to the Board the report of the
Building Committee to wit:
