I can see no objection, to having reputable, well
established, and sufficiently endowed professional schools
affiliated with our own institution. It is not probable
that the authorities of the Ohio University will, at
an early day, if ever, see to establish as colleges
of the institution schools of law, medicine, [?dentristry?],
pharmacy, and the like. Much of the work of such
Schools could not be done under conditions existing
or likely to exist at Athens.
"The Normal College
of Ohio University" will begin its work with the
opening of the new college year, September 9th
1902.
Much has been done alreday to get its work
in shape, and to make known its advantages to the
teachers of Ohio. A circular of the formation setting
[inserted] Annual
Report of
President [end inserted] forth the courses of study, the requirements of admission,
etc; is in course of preparation. This will be printed
in attractive form and widely distributed. Pages 76-78
inclusive of the last annual catalogu, certain
statements regarding the plan of organizing the Normal
College to which your attnetion is directed.
The summer term of the University, held in 1901-,
was so successful, and gave promise of such desirable
help to our regular educational work, that it was thought
advisable to provide for a similar term to be held
between the dates June 23 1902 and August 2-1902-
The booklet, before referred to shows the nature and
scope of the work to be done and gives the names of all
those who are to have part in the work of instruction.
This work is akin to that done in the regular college
terms and is worth as much to the University as any
other part of its scheduled exercises. The item of postage
on the various forms of printed matter sent out from
the University is of some importance. I have reason to
believe that hereafter, under proper restrictions,
much of this printed matter will pass through the
mails as second class, thus effecting a considerable
