Meeting
July 18.1901 [end inserted] A called meting of the Board of Trustees of the Ohio University
was held this day at its office in Ewing Hall in Athens
Ohio. A call of the roll showed the following members
of the Board present [?biz?]: V. C. Lowrey. L.M. Jewett. C.C.
Davidson [inserted] A. Lene [end inserted] L.J. Fenton. J.M Welch. William E. Bundy.
J.P.Wood. Albert. Douglas. DH. Moore. Israel. M. Foster
and T. R. Biddle, and being more than a quorum of
said Board.

of Chairman [end inserted] On motion of Mr Bundy duly seconded
and adopted L. J. Fenton was duly elected as
President pro [?term?] of this board and as Chairman
of this meeting.
Mr Fenton took the Chair and briefly thanked the
Board for the honor conferred upon him, and
state that the Board had been called together
in pursuance of a resolution adopted at the
June session of this Board for the purpose of electing a
President of the Ohio University [inserted] in case [end inserted] of the declination
of Rev. S. D. Hutinpillr to accept the Presidency
of this University to which position he had been
duly elected at the June session of this Board.
By direction of the Chairman the Secretary read to
the Board a letter from Rev. S. D. Hutsinpiller
[inserted] Resignation
of SD-
Hutsinpiller [end inserted] directed to the [inserted] Board [end inserted] bearing date July 3 1901-declining to
accept the Presidency of the Ohio University, and on
motion of Mr Douglas duly seconded and adopted it
was ordered that said resignation be accepted and that
said letter be placed on file.

of D. Alston
Ellis as
Pres O.U [end inserted] Mr C C Davidson "moved that Doctor Alston. Ellis
of Hamilton Ohio, be elected President of the Ohio
University until July 1st 1904. His salary to be at
the rate of $3500.00 per year, said salary to take effect
from and after August 1st 1901-, and that any rule
by-law or resolution of this Board be inconsistent with
this resolution be and the same is hereby repealed.
Which [inserted] motion [end inserted] was duly seconded, and no other nominations
being made for the Presidency of the Ohio University
