any specific object, but if we ask for a special
appropriation a library building to the most
important. If we concentrate our efforts on
this we shall be able in any event to get forty thousand
dollars. This sum will give us not only a suitable
place for our books but alos a place for other purposes.
In this connection I might also return to
the Forrestry department, which was left in
somewhat indefinite shape last year.
I still hold as I have held for many years that
such a department be of material benefit to us
and to the state at large But no half way
measures will suffice. If we want to do any
thing worth while we must have money Enough
to lease land suitable for reforresting
During the past
few years several such departments have been put
into operation, and the general problem of the
restoration of our forrests is receiving the attention
both of experts and the enlightened public
In conclusion I wish to express my hearty appreciation
of the spirit of kindness and cooperation that
has prevailed among the members of the faculty
during the year just closing. I also desire to
recognize the efficiency of the two Janitors and the
general servicableness of my stenographer Mr
F. P. Johnston.
