[inserted] Presidents
Annual
Report. [end inserted] The departments of Physics, Electrical Engineering, and Business
are now quite well supplied - The [inserted] two [end inserted] former will probably
need not more than $350.00; the latter practically
nothing - Of the estimates I have recommended
be allowed I recommend further that every time
an expenditure is made, it be accomplished by a
statement to the Finance Committee, or Auditor of
the entire amount appropriated to that department
and of the balance still standing to the credit of the
same. This gives the Board the control in advance
of all expenditures except as such as can not be
foreseen or provided for until the necessity arises -
For current expences I believe $5.000.00 will be
sufficient. However now that the Contingent fee has
been raised it seems highly inportant that the students
shall see that they are getting Value received for the
increase. We ought to be allowed to provide for a
lecture or concert or other entertainment when it
seems wise to do so. To these students out to be
admitted at a reduced rate, as this is the case
at the German Universities. Some new things ought to be
going on quite frequently about which the students
can talk and write home in order that it may
be seen that we are not getting into a comatose
condition. There is indirect way of advertising that is very
profitable. -
