Mr Lawrence Reade
Sir
I rec'd favr. by the Saturdays post cautioning
me againts any Concerns with Mr Jordan in the money way & I am sorry
to say it came to late before that time he hadrepresented to me that he came
here to make a stay of only a fortnight & having made his visit much
longer was out of Cash & delivered I woud furnish him with £50 fterling
for which he woud give me his Bill on Mr Thomas Walker of London
which I readily Colply'd with Considering him as a gentleman of family
& Fortune recommended to me by my friend Mr Reade & had not then
heard onw single sillable to his disadvantage so that I must have been greatly
wanting in my opinion of the Confidence due to my friend if I had
scrupled the Credit of his Bills thus it lays in my mind & the facts are
recited in a plain maner for your Consideration without any thought
of compelling you to be of my sentiments for I shall acquiese in whatever
you shall think proper to be done on the occasion so have I reclosd you a
power of Attourney that there may be no deficiency on my part to get Secu-
rity of Mr Jordan for the money I have advanc'd. I rec'd yours of 27th
{September} & must begg leave to mention that I do not remember any caution you
have givenme in Conversation not to Credit the persons you may recom
mend without your special order & shall carefully examin your Letters
to see if I can find anu such paragraph in them Mrs Wetchered pursued
Mr Jordan to Newport where she overtook him & got near the whole
of her demand. I am with great Esteem & friendship
