Digital Indy is looking for help in transcribing personnel records from the 1890s through early 1900s from the Indianapolis Firefighters Museum digital collection.
The Indianapolis Firefighters Museum collection showcases 200 years of Indianapolis Fire Department History. The collection features log books, dispatch recordings, personnel records, newsletters and photos, and oral histories of retired department personnel. The online firefighting collection also includes audio and video clips, 3-dimensional objects and miscellaneous items, and photos of some of Indianapolis’ most unforgettable tragedies, such as the Fairgrounds Coliseum explosion in 1963 and the Grant Building fire in 1973.Browse the full Indianapolis Firefighters Museum Digital Collection here: https://www.digitalindy.org/digital/custom/ifd
Digital Indy is a freely accessible archive highlighting the history and culture of Indianapolis and Marion County. Since 2004, Digital Indy has worked with over 50 organizations and individuals across the city to make their history available online. Materials include yearbooks, documents, photos, administrative reports, promotional materials, newspapers, oral histories and performances. With a focus on city services, non-profits and neighborhoods, over 100,000 objects consisting of over 1,000,000 pages have been digitized providing a wealth of primary sources for anyone interested in the Circle City. Digital Indy is a part of the Indianapolis Public Library.
