Irish Dialect Archive Manuscript Collection

The Irish Dialect Archive (Cartlann na gCanúintí) was established in 1953 by Professor Tomás de Bhaldraithe, as part of the Department of Modern Irish at UCD. The Archive is a resource centre for Irish language lexical / dialect research and consists of card indices, manuscripts, computer-based data and two small libraries. The Irish Virtual Research Library and Archive (IVRLA) has digitised two manuscript collections from the Irish Dialect Archive:

B26 consists of a hand-written manuscript, 'Seanchas, cuimhní cinn' by Seán Ó Dálaigh of Dún Chaoin (Dunquin), Co. Kerry. The collection also includes correspondence relating to the manuscript's provenance and some material relating to Seán Ó Dálaigh. The manuscript was given by the author to Cornelius Duane, School Inspector in around 1947. Duane attempted to publish the manuscript and made editorial annotations to it. In 1978, the manuscript was presented to Professor Tomás de Bhaldraithe of the Irish Dialect Archive by Fionnuala Duane, daughter of Cornelius Duane.

B30 consists of a hand-written manuscript, 'Stair na mBlascaodaí, beag agus mór' by Tomás Ó Criomhthain of the Great Blasket Island, Co. Kerry. It includes the author's annotations.

Material has been digitised in the order in which it was received by the IVRLA. In several cases, the pagination or reading order of the material is out of sequence. These instances have been noted in the individual item descriptions.
