Minutes of Meeting held on 18th March 1949 Present WG Morgan (Chair) ST Baillie, KV Ford, HJ Freeman, DK Speed, AC Trestrail, & P Woods. Also Clerk AH Taylor, & Overseer RW Doudle. Minutes of previous meeting Confirmed. Finance - Financial Statement Showed a Credit of £5837.16.6. Correspondence. Re Closing of Roads Hd Wanilla. 1164/49/ Director of Lands, Stating it is proposed to close Roads adjoining Sections 21/16 and 4/5 Hd Wanilla as Coloured Green on Plan enclosed, and asking if Council would sign the necessary plan and make the necessary order to close same. Prop Cr Baillie/ Sec Cr Woods } That Council agrees to sign plan and make the order as requested. Carried. Closing Reserve No 4 Hd Wanilla. 5834/47/ Director of Lands also suggesting that Water Reserve No 4 Adjoining Sec 21 Hd Wanilla be closed and resumed as it is no longer required as such, & asking if Council has any objection to its resumption. Prop Cr Baillie/ Sec Cr Woods } That Council agrees to the proposition. Re Trust Homes Cummins. SA Housing Trust , in reply to Councils enquirie- Stating that their Board had approved of the building of a Group of Houses in Cummins, and negotiations for the purchase of the necessary land are now proceeding. Rec'd. Phone in Coulta - EHD Russell , MHR re Phone Cabinet at Coulta with a reply from Deputy Director stating that Council's request will receive consideration. Re Post Office at Wanilla Also a letter from Deputy Director stating that facilities can be made available at Wanilla, on completion of an additional Trust home to Cummins - and arrangements are in hand re the conduct of a proposed Post Office at Wanilla. Rec'd. 122/49 Director of Local Govt - Re Loan Money for Public Works etc. Rec'd.

Re Curator Cummins- J Fuss & Sons - Stating that they are unable to act as Curator of Cummins Cemetery as requested. Rec'd. Request Road GradingJW Hayman, Requesting that road adjoining his Section 25 Hd Cummins, be cleared & graded, especially on the eastern boundary, as no improvement has been done to this road during the last 12 years. Council will endeavour to have something done as soon as possible. RJR Haeusler, in paying his rates, drew attentionto the state of the road through his property Secs 26.55.54 Hd Cummins and requesting that this road be improved in the near future- This being a Main Road (Bratten Way) the Council will endeavour to get the Highways Dept have it improved. Re Gravelling- F.E.A Dahlitz requested that the road from marble View School to the Railway Crossing, be gravelled and put in order before the winter. The Overseer was instructed to do what he can to this road. Building Plan Approved- NP Cowan submitted a plan of proposed building to be erected on Lot 174 of Blk 10 of Sec 3A Cummins to cost approx £600 for material. Prop Cr Trestrail/ Sec Cr Ford} That Plan be approved provided the foundations are built well above the Footpath level. Carried. Re Vermin on Elliston BoundaryAS Smith, Elliston Vermin Inspector requesting the full cooperation of this Council in the destruction of Vermin along the Northern boundary of our District - Resolved that this Council Cooperate and issue notices to the owners of Land adjoining the boundary to destroy the Vermin. Fire Controller- H Longmire tendered his resignation as Fire Controller for Karkoo Hd Shannon as he is leaving the district and advised that T.L.D Dunstan will be agreeable to act in his place. Prop Cr Freeman/ Sec Cr Trestrail} That his resignation be accepted with regret, and thank him for past services, and that T.L.D Dunstan be appointed Fire Controller for Hd Shannon in his place. Carried.

Re Closing Road Hd Shannon- RT Robins requested that the 3 Chain road through his property Sec 13 Hd Shannon be closed, as the road is never used. Resolved that later on this road may need to be used, the Council are not in favour of Closing it at present. Application to Lease Road- WH Roberts made application to lease the road between Sections 22.29.40 and 31.30 & 41. Hd Lincoln. Held over, Cr Woods to see Mr Roberts. And Allan Crawford, Also made application to lease the portion of the same road between his property Blk 19 of Sec 21 and Sec Blk 21 of Sec 22 Hd Lincoln. Held over - Cr Woods to see Mr Crawford. Re Old Grave at the Pines Little Swamp. Vernon Smith, Largs bay, wrote in reference to the wooden fence having fallen into decay around the grave at the Pines - Little Swamp of an early School mate and asking if the Council would be interested in the restoration, and he also suggested that some more permanent Memorial should be erected. Resolved that the Council are not prepared to take any action. Re Road- JC Stiggants wrote again re state of the road past his property. Clerk had replied to same - That Corporation had agreed to keep this road in order. EP Local Govt Assoc- Secy Local Govt Assoc (EP) quoting replied received in reference to Notices of Motion passed at the last Conference at Whyalla. Leased Road Louth- DP Murray made application to lease road on south of Secs 331.332.333 Hd Louth and also to erect good & serviceable gates. Prop Cr Baillie/ Sec Cr Woods} That application be granted under usual conditions subject to gates or Ramps be erected where instructed by Council's Overseer and to his satisfaction. Carried. Subdivision of Lots- Town Planner with Plan No 479/49 re Subdivision of Lots 9 & 10 of Sec 1 of 3A Cummins, on A/c VA Guy and AJ Letton to Lots AC & BD for Councils approval. Also Plan No 480/49- Land for Road widening at corner of Lots

Corners for Street14 and 15 of Sec 2N and portion of Sec 2W Railway Land. Prop Cr Ford/ Sec Cr Trestrail} That both the above subdivisions as shown on Plans, 479/49 & 480/49 be approved. Carried. Erect a Gate on Road- Savings bank - AG Miller applied for permission to erect a gate across road adjoining Sec 38 Hd Kiana. permission Granted under usual conditions. Letter of Sympathy Mr RoeProp Cr Morgan/ Sec Cr Trestrail } That a letter of Sympathy be sent to Mrs GP Roe and family, on the death through an accident of Mr Roe, late Councillor for Mortlock Ward, Cummins. Overseers report was read and adopted on a motion by Crs Trestrail & Freeman.

Expenses on Trip- Prop Cr Woods/ Sec Cr Speed} That Council pay the Overseer 15/- per day expenses, over and above Car Hire while attending the Conference at Ceduna. Carried. Re Phone pt Lincoln to Mt Hope- Cr Woods requested that Council again write to Telephone Deputy Director requesting an improved Telephone Service between Pt Lincoln and mt Hope or that an extra Line be installed to expedite same. Subscribers have to wait up to an hour before they can raise an exchange at times. Letter to be sent. Reuqest- Cr Freeman had a request from G Roberts & Son for some bad corners cleared on the road from Railway line to Kapinnie. This to be done. Cr Freeman also requested that the closing of the road adjoining Corner at Borgmeyers be expedited, but Surveyor to prepare Plan. Re Seat on Footpath Cummins PO - Cr Ford stated that Mr AL Hill requested that a suitable seat be provided on the Footpath at Cummins P.O for the use of Ratepayers waiting for their Mail, and that he would be prepared to contribute to same. Enquiries to be made for a suitable seat. Inspection of District- Prop Cr Woods/Sec Cr Trestrail } That Council have an inspection of the District this year (in 2 cars), the date to be arranged by the Overseer, also the Itinerary. Carried. Accounts- Prop Cr Freeman/ Sec Cr Trestrail } That the following Accounts as read be passed for payment. General A/c £2172.6.2 Govt Grants A/c £1,637.8.8. Carried. Secy Savings bank of SA Requested the name of Hermann Neuenkirchen be inserted on the Voters Roll Vide Section 100 of L.G. Act in respect to Bank Property Part Lot 6 of Sec 2W Cummins.
