A PROCLAMATION KNOW ALL BY THESE PRESENTS; That I, [[Crawford, Allan R., 1901-1923|Allan Rudyard Crawford]],a native of [[Canada|CANADA]] and a British subject and those men whose names appear below, members of the [[Wrangel Island (Russia)|Wrangel Island]] Detachment of the Stefansson Arctic Expedition of 1921-, on the advice and council of [[Stefansson, Vilhjalmur, 1879-1962|Vilhjalmur Stefansson]], a British subject, have this day, in consideration of lapses of foreign claims and the occupancy from March 12th 1914 to September 7th 1914 of this island by the survivors of the brigantine Karluk, Captain [[Bartlett, Bob, 1875-1946|R.A.Bartlett]] commanding, the property of the Government of [[Canada|CANADA]] chartered to operate in the Canadian Arctic Expedition of 1913-1918 of which survi- vors Chief Engineer [[Munro, John|Munro]], a native of [[Scotland|SCOTLAND]] and a British subject, raised the Canadian flag, raised the British flag and declared this land known as [[Wrangel Island (Russia)|WRANGEL Island]] to be the just possession of [[George V, King of Great Britain, 1865-1936|His Majesty GEORGE, King of GREAT BRITAIN]] and IRELAND and the Dominions beyond the Seas, Emperor of INDIA, etc., and a part of the BRITISH EMPIRE.
