RANDOM NOTES—Blackjack

IMPORTANT—

Ada's statement taken down in 1924 by E. A. Jordan
see p 297 English Edition for this and character sketch
(also IMPORTANT,) by Mrs Inglis Fletcher.

In 1924 Ada's son Bennett 8 years old. Ada had two
babies who died. Bennett was in a childrens' home in or near
Nome when Ada left with the expedition. She had hoped that
with the money ($50.00 per mo.) she would receive as pay
that she might be able to take the boy from the home and
have him with her.

Although "educated" at a Mission, Ada retained much
of the folklore and beliefs of her mother and Eskimo fore-
bears. About polar bears and Ada see p 314 and forward,
Eng Edition. Also Eskimo belief about strange but kindly
folk who live in hollow hills and who walk about outside
in the guise of foxes (make something of this). Footnote on
p 363 Eng Edit.

FOR ADA'S STRANGE BEHAVIOR read Knight's report in
his diary, Eng Edit, p 359.

Comparison of Ada with Lady Franklin. P 309 Eng Ed.

Ada received $500.00 for white fox skins. Eng Edit p320.

Though it’s hard to find much mention of "Vic", the cat,
which survived the three years, it seems to me something
could be made of it.
