Dear Delphine:

It seems to me you told me once that in one of
Fred's letter to you he spoke of a skinboat having been secured at
East Cape to be taken to Wrangell Island and that he told you also
that it had been washed overboard or otherwise lost. The only other
thing to indicate they might have had a skin boat that we can find
anywhere is in a letter from Crawford to me where the following three
sentences occur. I am giving you all three to see the context although
it is only the middle one that refers to the boat.

"Left Nome Sept. 9th. Called East Cape, Siberia
to purchase skin boat, sighted island noon yesterday. Resembles in
outline and color country round Lewiston, Idaho."

On the other hand Knight says in his diary that
they did not buy a boat at East Cape because the natives wanted too
high a price.

Will you please tell me that exact date of your
wedding? I seem to have forgotten it and cannot find it in my files.

Mrs. F. W. Maurer,
911 Robbins Avenue,
Niles, Ohio.
