Dear Mrs. Maurer;

During the absence of Mr. Stefansson's secretary I have
undertaken to attend to his office in New York. He cables me from London
to advise you that he proposes with Harold Noice to publish the diaries
or journals of the members of the Wrangel Island Expedition, the proceeds
of which will be divided amongst their respective heirs.

I am sure that financial considerations have no place in your mind
at this time, but this at least is one way in which Mr. Stefansson can
demonstrate his sincere sympathy, of which I am sure you will need no
assurance from me, and of which I have no doubt he will inform you
personally at the first opportunity.

Yours sincerely,

LeB
