Dear Mrs. Wilcox:-

I have just received your letter of July
9th and also your telegram, both dealing with the matter
of publicity for the Wrangel Relief Expedition. I hope
to get this whole thing settled one way or the other to-
morrow, and will be able to write to you then saying
just what has been done.

In the meantime I think that it was right
that Mr. LeBourdais should not publish anything at pre-
sent in regard to the Expedition as this no doubt would
have interferred seriously with the value of Mr. Noice’s
story.

It occurs to me that I have not yet con-
firmed the telegram I sent to you from Ottawa. Attached
you will find a copy of this, and in explanation I might
say that I received a telegram at Montreal from Mr. Gibson,
Acting Deputy Minister of the Interior, reading:

"Telegram Fifth received. Deputy
Minister Cory left last night. Will
be absent two weeks. Cannot see how
consideration can be given to any
proposition re Wrangel Island Exped-
ition until we are apprised by Im-
perial Authorities of result of V.
Stefansson
’s representations to them."

and not being satisfied with this, I went down to Ottawa
