Blowing a fresh breeze from the E, with snow. Galle went
to the other camp today and saw fresh bear track, but no
fox tracks. Cloudy.

A seal appeared on the ice this morning about 1/4 of a mi.
to the W, near shore. Crawford went after him but could
only get to within 200 yds of him for rough thin ice. Two
shots were fired and we think the seal was hit but he
went down his hole. Galle and I hauled a load of
wood from the W. Strong br from the S.S.E. Occasional
light showers of rain & sleet. Cloudy.

Blowing a strong breeze this A.M. from the E. with snow.
Crawford and I hauled a load of wood from the W. Saw no fox
tracks. At dark the wind light and variable and the sky cleared
up but now (10 P.M.) cloudy and light breeze from the N.W.
Saw a large sea gull today. The sea seems to be rather
solid and we intend to start moving tomorrow. About
