The four of us hauled the load perhaps 100 yds with
some difficulty until we reached a lead that could
not be crossed with such a heavy load. The skin
was left here and we returned og to the meat and
took a load of 300 lbs (?). This went fairly
easy until about 1/2 way back to the boat (which
was pulled up on a cake of ice) where we came to
a bad lead. The load was not lashed and while
pulling the sled aecross across the said lead
the sled capsized ans and all but about about 50 lbs.
of meat was lost. We arrived home at 8:30 P.M.
just in time for a fresh breeze arose from the
East and excepting for a few open water
holes the sea xx is ice covered as far as can
be seen. Cloudy. Crawford shot a seal while
coming ashore which sank before we could
reach it.
