*That the expedition to Wrangell Island had for its object
the testing of any "theory" about living by hunting is, of course, a
point of view which none of us had and for which there is no
documentary er other evidence. This theory had already been estab-
lished through five years of its application on the expedition of
1913-18. We had not proved it a method which could not fail, but
only that the danger of its failing when applied with diligence and
skill is no greater than the danger of the failure of other methods
of arctic travel.
