- Day pretty cold, not warmer than 33 °F. K & Ada try for
some geese back on tundra, no luck. The rest stay in.

- Weather below freezing all day, thick overhead. I go for
short walk, see only 1 owl. Ada goesout for roots, others
stay in. I could see ice from high place on tundra pretty
sparsely strewn about 2 miles offshore, from there on an
almost solid mass as far as I could see, about 8 or ten miles.

- The day has been thick & cold, started snowing, wind
blowing from E., snowed 1 1/2" deep. We collect most of wood
around camp for stove. Heard some brant, sounded like small
flock. Tide was very high at noon. Had some root stew
to-day. Coffee has taken place of tea, I don't like it.
Ocean froze last night about 1/2 inch ice, the fresh water
about 2/3 to 3/4".

- Sun out all day, snow disappears in short time. C. prints
pictures. All stay in. Tide very high noon & midnight,
current west flow, east ebb. Crawford prints pictures.

- Weather good, sun out all day, wind W.S.W.. About 6 miles
young ice along beach. Hear geese several times. Crawford
develops films. See one owl close to camp, checkered, not
like other we saw.

- Sun not out today, pretty cold. M. K. & I haul dory-load
wood from east, get from lake. See 1 eider today, geese at
lake. Old squaws can fly now. See more ravens now than
previous. Ice farther out, W.S.W. wind, dark clouds south
not when wind from east.

- Weather about same with W. wind, ice about 2 m. out, fresh
ice along beach. Birds lighting on ice. C. takes picture
of group, K & I. I cut 1 film 1/2 lengthwise to make V.P.
films for my camera, get about 3 V.P. and out 1 3A, much
cheaper 3A 55¢ 6 exp., V.P. 30¢ 8 exp., this way 25 exp.
V.P. for price of 6 3A exp. 90¢ V.P. saving 35¢.

- Best day this year, calm most all day, sun out also though
not over 36°. Ice still far our. See female eider with
young, cannot fly yet. Change from stew to steaks.
C. prints pictures doz. or so, when finished I develop
some films, develop 7 rolls in 1 developer for prints. Very
much easier & cheaper than other system, 1 dev. for 1 film.
C & K see northern lights shortly after 12 P.M., stars
visible some nights now. Large flock Brant south, could
not see but hear.

- Calm all day, sun out till 3 P.M., clouds from E. Hear
walrus all day & night. I print some of my films today
using bad paper by first washing, drying and then printing.
Looked good to me in box but on some pictures stains
remained, I believe from the drying. Dried them over lamp.
Will try some in oven tonight, may have better results.
6:30 P.M. we see many walrus on ice floe about W. Looked
hard to approach so stayed in. I bring up 1 side bear ribs
this morning, 1 rib, pelvis, head all that's left. 3 brant
south.
