Dear Mr. Stefansson:

The autographed copies of "The Adventures of Wrangel" were deliver-
ed last week, and we are very much pleased with them. To us, it seems
that the book embodies the true spirit of arctic exploration. and at
the same time is free from the sentimentalism and melodramatic ele-
ments which characterize so many works of that nature.

We cannot help feeling that the sacrifice Fred made was not in
vain, and that the ideals he died for will come nearer realization
as time goes on. Polar exploration and development on a scientific
basis seems to be but in its infancy, and there is no limit to what
may be expected in the future.

Thanking you again for the book, we remain,
Very sincerely yours,

Josaph. C. Maurer
David W. Maurer.

Kate Maurer Weaver

P.S.
We have just learned that the local Chamber of Commerce has
passed a resolution to place a memorial to Fred in the public square
in the form of a drinking fountain. No doubt this will be of interest
to you.
