Dear Delphine:

Your letter of April 22nd and the package of papers
have come just as I am leaving for Australia. I am returning the
papers immediately with just as many thanks as if I had used them.
Not supposing you had more than one set, I had made a similar request
to John Maurer and his copies arrived some days ago. I am using from
them in the book the larger part of Fred's first article, this telling
the story of Wrangell Island and the Karluk partly in his words and
partly in those of Captain Hadley.

Thank you for letting me read your poetic story.
You know how much I sympathise in everything that concerned you and
Fred and the poem, therefore, touches me deeply.

Thanks also for your letter which contains exactly
the facts I want. It was especially the date I needed, for the rest
I knew.

Mrs. F. W. Maurer,
911 Robbins Avenue,
Niles, Ohio.
