Mr. V. Stefansson
New York City, N.Y.
Dear Sir;
Re; Lorne's indebtedness to you ;
I beg to acknowledge the receipt of your letter under date
Jan.17, wherein you say that
" Accodring to your letter of the 28 th, Lorne seems to owe me
now, $190.00. This is in accord with my bookkeeping.
I am herewith handing you a copy of a letter I have just written
to Mr. John Anderson Sec. at Vancouver and which, I hope will
have the effect of getting the matter straightened out.
I understood that you were paying the board of Galle, $40.00
and charging the same to him and not that Lorne was paying it.
If this is the case, Lorne would only owe you $150.00 unless
there was $40.00 on account of some other matter of which I
have no knowledge. If the $40.00 was charged against Lorne and
he has to pay it, for Galle's board, should not he have a chance
to charge and collect this from Galle in the final settlement.?
I never leanred on what basis Lorne was serving on this
expedition and wish you would kindly give me some idea as to
what his basis of operation is and what his pay is and how.
We have had a letter from a Seattle friend who states that
your latest book is out and as the information is very vague,
we want to know for we want one and if you will advise where
we can get one, we will send for it instanter.
Presume you see of the plans for Amudson's expedition.
He seems to be fitting the Maud out for a great undertaking
and I can only hope that his aireoplanes and wireless will
prove successful.
Mrs. Knight's father, 94 years old, has seen the newspaper
reports of the controversy between yourself and Dr. Anderson and
in his shocked and astonished agitation he said "Why, LORNE
ENDORSED MR. STEFANSSON ?". Presume Dr .Anderson wants to make
a Peary of himself and a Dr. Cook of you.
Yours very respectfully;
