V. Stefansson, Esq.,
Harvard Club,
New York, U.S.A.
Dear Mr. Stefansson,
I enclose a copy of confirmation of telegram sent
to Mr. Taylor this morning, and at his request I am send-
ing you herewith draft for $1,000. This leaves a balance
of approximately $1,000. in the account, but we owe wages
at the end of October as follows:-
A. R. Crawford ... $ 850.00
Ada Blackjack ... 100.00
You will notice I have not paid Crawford's wages
for some time. This is due to the fact that I was afraid
to spend the money which we received from the Dominion Gov-
ernment for other than what it was intended, as I understand
the money was advanced for the purpose of chartering the
"Teddy Bear", and for the relief of the men on the Island.
It will be necessary to arrange for additional
funds later, as in a letter received from you this week you
suggested paying Sir Edmund Walker's note, which amounts to
$500. plus interest, and also the interest on Dr. Jenning's
advance. You will therefore see that it would require
more funds than we have at present, to pay off these lia-
bilities.
Yours truly,
John Anderson
