Dear Captain Bernard:

Mr. Harold Noice claims to have information to the effect that in you did not make a bona fide effort to reach Wrangell Island. Of course, I feel certain this is not true and that you did your best. Still, I would like to get a statement from you.

One of the men who at first believed Mr. Noice's statement was Mr. J. I. Knight, of McMinnville, Oregon, Lorne Knight's father. I think I have convinced him, however, that you undoubtedly did your best. I talked the matter over with Carl Lomen and he also feels sure that you tried hard and did whatever in your judgment seemed best.

When you write me, tell me also whether you have a ship up there next year and whether you and the ship will be available in case we might want to charter her for a voyage from Nome to Wrangell. As you know, we have a party of fifteen people on the island.

(Signed) V. Stefansson.
