Letter from J. L. Kennard to Mississippi Governor Benjamin G. Humphreys; July 31, 1866

Port Gibson July 31, 1866

Gov B. G. Humphreys

Dear Sir

Mrs Rags-dale in one of her interviews with Col. Coleman mentioned having Some pa-pers which the Col. told her she had better let him look at to see if they were of any Value— they were only Land Plats &C & among them is a Tax recpt paid by Mr [R, Unknown|R]] in Feby 1860— which recpt Contains the Same Numbers & a one as Specified in Daniel's obligation for Title. I enclose a copy of the description of the Land. Col. Coleman Says it will take two Courts to perfect the Title—as the Judge of Probates Wilhamn first to authorize the Executors of Daniele to Make the Deed, & then Confirm the Proceedings at the next Court—Who will you get to attend to your interest in the Mat-ter— As Col. C. is Mrs Daniles Attorney and now understand the whole matter I think it would ^be^ best to let him attend to it, that is pro-vided a Lawyer be necessary. Please Say to James that we an all note & have not heard from him for Sometime.

Very Truly &c

J L Kennard
