Sir,

I have received from Dr. E. W. Hilgard the commission sent by you, appointing me Assistant Geologist of the State of Mississippi & hereby signify my acceptance of the same, and will immediately enter upon the duties pertaining to that office.

With grateful acknowledgement of this mark of your confidence, and hoping to be able to contribute to the progress of Science, and to the development of the Agricultural resources of the State,
