Hon J M Stone Jackson Mississippi
My dear Sir,
Allow me to call your attention to the name of Major Baxter McFarland a lawyer of this city, as a man most suitable in every respect for the position of Chancellor of this district.
As lawyer scholar and studious moral man, Major McFarland is second to none in the state—and in my opinion no appointment would give greater, if as great satisfaction to the Bar and people of this district as this. Major McFarland was of our old 11th Mississippi Regiment and was promoted there from to Generl Lucker staff of the Tennessee Army—
I ask yr attention to this letter in memory of lang syne & in favor of a capable honest gentleman
Very Truly Yours,
