Know all men by these presents that I James B Ellington of the County of Attala State of Mississippi have this day Constituted and appointed and by these presents do constitute and appoint A M West of Macon Mississippi my agent and attorney for me and in my Stead to Collect any and all money due me by the State of Mississippi for property impressed for the use of the State and to receipt therefor and give any other Satisfaction assurances of pay-ment that may be necessary this preises &c and to do any and all other things in the premisis that I Could do if personally present

Personally appeared before me T D Sallis Clerk of the Probate Court of said county James B Ellington who acknowledges that Co Signer sealed and delivered the forgoing power of Attorny on this day and date thereof and for the uses and purposes therein mentioned

Received of Gov Clark [?] requisition on Auditor of public accts for two hundred & seventy five dolls being appraised value of one horse impressed by Wm Woods Lt & imp office on 19th May 1863, of J. Ellington for whom I am authorized attorney

State of Mississippi Attala County


Personally appeared before me Thos D Sallis Clerk of the Probate Court of Said ^county^ James. B. Ellington who being duly Sworn deposed and Said that Some time in the Spring of the year 1863—a man by the name of William Woods (a Citizen of this County) impressed a mare for the use and benefit of the State of Mississippi Estimated & Valued at Two hundred & Seventy five dollars ($275 00100) for which he give affiant a Certificate & that he place said certificate in the hands of J W Scarborough to send up for Collection.

Also appeared J W Scarborough who being duly Sworn deposed & Said that said Certificate has been lost or mislaid so that he cannot find it &c

Sworn to & Subscribed before me this 28th June AD 1864.

DearSir

I here,send you Mr J B Ellingtons Claim on the State together with his power making you his agent to Collect the Same—he request me to say to you he wants the amount is the new issue, that he now has more of the Old issue then he can profitably use—the Old man has but little Capacity for intricate business, you will therefore is posable procure the Kind of money wanted. we have within the past hour had a fine Corn making rain move home in from ^your^ section of County to day than was on yes-terday and day before raining at your homestead or that direc-tion—Send Mr Ellingtons money by Mr Young on his return home if it is direct
