Peyton's Reserves, 3rd Battalion Cavalry, Mississippi Militia (Reserve) (Confederate) was organized in the spring of 1864 in Lawrence County, Mississippi under the command of Maj. E. A. Peyton and served in the Western Theater. It was later commanded by Capt. D. G. Cooper. (Howell, Jr., Military History of Mississippi, 41; Rowland, Official and Statistical Register of Mississippi, 937-938)
