Dear Emily

Your mother is so far recovered that
she goes about her work, as usual, though weaker.

We have this day heard from Rosalie, that her
little Rebecca is in the grave. The children have
all be affected with hooping cough, & it has
proved fatal to the daughter. This is a sore
affliction, not only to Rosalie, but to her sister
Eleanor, who was warmly attached to her, &
who had appropriated # 50 to be put to
interest for her benefit. It will be also a grievous
event to William.

William has obtained a clerkship in the bank
at La Fayette, with $500 salary, & he has
contracted with a man to build him a cottage.

Your sister Goodrich has been unwell lately,
with pains in the breast & head. She has been bled
to-day, & feels relieved. She attends to her do-
mestic concerns.

Lucy also has been unwell, but is better. So we
all have our afflictions - & may we make a good use
of them ~ our love be with you all.

Your affectionate father

N Webster.
