New Haven Jany 7, 1933 Dear Emily, We received your affectionate letter, congratulating us on the return of New Years day. We cordially [illegible] rotate your kind wishes. I pray that you & your family as well as your [friends?] here may still be "round with loving kindness & tender mercy." Our family have indeed been blessed the year past. amidst all the common & uncommon diseases to which human subjects we have all escaped. I am in health.
Our church has suffered the loss of many of its members - hands[?] of familiars - Mrs Whiting, Mrs. Hitchcock, Mrs. [Adelie/Addie?] Lewis, Mrs. Durand, Deacon Twining, Mr. Millhouse - & an unusual number of victioms clustered [?] into the grave in a few weeks. But we have reason to think they were prepared for their exit. William Lessing [illegible] son died on Saturday last. His father is in Europe.
We have this day a letter from Daniel, who with the family, is in health. -
Our connections here are well, exceptProf. Goodrich, who has a very bad cold which has required blisters[?].
I will thank Pinckney to call on Mr. Francis Durand & take a book [crossed out:] fre of deposits in the saving bank[?] & bring to me next week--

Mary makes some progress on the Piano - & I hope in a year she will be able to play a duett with Emily & Harriet.
The great Tomlison house has been consumed by fire. It was occupied by Mr Shepherd, a teacher.
Accept the love of all your friend here from your affectionate father
