On motion, it was ordered that Mr. L. Heilbron be appointed as a committee of one to get bids from Progressive Cleaners to keep the synagogue in good order, to clean and wash windows and also get bids for the collections.
A vote of thanks were tendered to Mr. H. Mitau [Note] for past services and also that the secretary communicate with Mr. Mitau that the Board regrets that a misunderstanding should have occurred.
A vote of thanks was also tendered to Miss Sophia Price for services and that the Board should procure a fine set of prayer books to be presented to Miss Price, the books to be suitably inscribed and the secretary was instructed to purchase same and also purchase or order 25 extra daily Prayers for the use of visitors.
Mr. Weinstock asked the privilege of inviting ministers of other denominations to occury the pulpit on Friday evening. On motion, the same was unanimously granted, and that Mr. Wise from San Francisco [margin note: who has offered his services] should be included among those to occupy the pulpit on some Friday evening at such time as Mr. Weinstock sees fit.
On motion, it was ordered that the Board approve the ushers for the synagogue to act in alternate months. The Chair appointed Mr. M.S. Lavenson and H. Fraley for the month of October and Mr. Jos. Thieben and J. Anchell for the month of November and the Secretary whenever he can assist.
The Secretary was authorized to notify Mr. Wilson of the arrangements the Board made concerning ushers.

The President stated that Mrs. Hanley had made arrangements with Mr. Bearley to sing on the New Year etc. on account of Mr. Mitau could not be here on that day, and through a misunderstanding with Mr. Mitau had also to engage him for Day of Atonement and ask the Board to draw a warrant for $15.00 for his services. The same was on motion granted.
The President also asked that warrants be drawn for Mr. Muller [Note 2] for $2.50, Miss Nourse $5.00, Mrs. Longbottom $2.00, Mr. Adler $2.50, and Mr. Griffin $2.50 for singing and playing on Yom Kippur. On motion the same was ordered paid and warrants drawn on the Treasurer for the amount.
On motion it was ordered that Mrs. Hanley receive $5.00 extra salary for the month of September.
The regular monthly salaries were ordered paid as follows. Collector $50.00, Mrs. Hanley $10.00, Miss Ross $10.00 Mr. Mohns $15.00.
On motion it was ordered that the bill for gas for 68.95 be paid, also 15.00 for advertising. [Note 2]
On motion it was ordered that the Board advertise for a Rabbi in the American Israelite for one month.
On motion Mr. Thieben, M.S. Lavenson and L. Salomon were appointed a committee to get new members for the congregation.

Regular meeting of Trustees Sacramento, October 25, 1899
The Board of Officers met in the synagogue at 8 P.M. Mr. Albert Elkus, President presiding. Roll call of Officers: Mr. J. Anchell, school director noted absent.
Minutes read of the preceeding meeting and approved.
The Building committe reported progress also a guarantee signed by Mr. J. Thompson that he will agree to repair the roof so that it will not leak, paint the gutters, cement the walls where needed at the cost of $10.00. On motion it was ordered that the same be approved.
Mr. H. Weinstock reported the Mr. Mitau would likely occupy the pulpit on next Friday, Mr. Wise on the following Friday night, and Rev. Voorsanger sometime in the month of December. The Board decided to pay the expenses of the above named gentlemen whenever they would come to lecture.
On motion it was order that a vote of thanks be tendered to Dr. Van Norton in appreciation of the services rendered on Friday evening October 13th.
L. Salomon was excused from the committee on membership.
Mr. Theiben was requested to wait on Mr. Weinrich to ascertain if he wanted to pay his dues to the congregation and remain a member.

Mr. Heilbron committee of one appointed to get bids from Progressive cleaners [Note] reported that he had not seen thus far, but would leave the matter in the hands of the members of the congregation at their annual meeting next Sunday. The report was received and adopted.

Special Meeting Sacramento, November 10, 1899
A special meeting was called by the president for the purpose of acting on the bids for the papering and painting of the interior of the synagogue and also to act on the different applications of Rabbi.
The bid of Locke and Lavenson for ----- was read and on motion it was ordered that the same be accepted. Several applications were read for the position of Rabbi. The matter of selecting 4 of the applicants was referred to a committee of Mr. H. Weinstock and Mr. L. Heilbron, who are to communicate and ask for their credentials and on motion it was ordered that Rev. Greenburg be included among the applicants. The president was added to that committee.
Mr. Lesser was proposed to become a member of the congregation and was elected.
