On motion it was ordered that the request be granted and the treasurer requested to keep that money separate, and to be used only for improvements in cemetery.

The matter of exchanging plats of Mrs. Louis Levy was on motion postponed.

Secretary instructed to notify Mrs. Bories that she cannot hold plat in the cemetery unless remaining a member of the congregation or paying $50.00 additional.

The name of Julius Steinhart was dropped from the roll on account of NP [nonpayment] of dues. Bill of Sullivan Kelly for $50.00 for painting synagogue was ordered paid.

The following amounts were ordered drawn on the treasurer Rabbi Simon, salary for July 150.00 Mr. Wilson 50.00 Mr. Mohns 15.00

On motion it was ordered that a vote of thanks be tendered to the Ladies Aux. Society for their donation of $78.55 and secretary instructed to communicate to that effect with the Ladies Aux. Society.

No further business, the meeting adjourned, to meet on the 17th of August.

Sacramento, August 17, 1898

The Board of Officers met at the synagogue at 8 o'clock P.M. Mr. Albert Elkus, presiding. Roll call, Mr. Sam Lavenson & A. Bonheim were noted absent.

Minutes of last meeting read and approved. On motion it was ordered that the prices of seats be the same as last year with the exception of reducing one of the $2.00 benches. First bench $5.00, 2 next 3.00, 2 @ 2.50, 2 @ 2.00 And the balance $1.00.

The chart to be left at the place of business of Mr. Albert Elkus and the secretary was instructed to notify the members that seats can be [?drawn] for commencing Sept. 1st to Sept. 11th. [Note]

The secretary was instructed to notify members who are in arrears for dues, that it is expected from them to pay for seats in advance. On motion it was ordered that no assistant should be engaged for the Holidays. Services to commence at 7:00 P.M. The chair appointed Wm. Thieben, J. Ginsberg and the secretary committee to attend so members get their proper seats.

The regular salaries were ordered paid Warrants drawn on the treasurer for amounts Rabbi Simon 150.00 Mr. Wilson, collector 50.00 Mr. Mohns taking care of cemetery 15.00 Total 215.00

No further business appearing, the meeting adjourned

Mr. Sam Nathan communicated with the board that he is unable to keep up to remain a member of the congregation and asks for his dues remitted & to accept his resignation. On motion the request was granted and 2 seats for [Margin note: the holidays should be given to Mr. Nathan]

Trustee Meeting Sacramento, Sept. 28, 1898

The Board met in the synagogue at 8 P.M. Mr. Albert Elkus, President, presiding. Trustee A. Bonheim and School director J. Anchell absent.

Minutes of the meeting of August 17 read and approved.

An appeal for aid for the sufferers of Krakow [Note] was read and the same was ordered to be given to Rabbi A. Simon to be read from the pulpit at Friday night's services.

The secretary was instructed to charge for seats for the following: H. Gosliner, Irving Heilbron, M. Hirsch one extra seat.

The president stated that he had given seats at reduced prices to several persons who were not in a position to pay full price. On motion, it was ordered that the actions of the president were approved.

The president was instructed to have the Rabbi to carry out the instructions from the Board in relation to the reading of the Hebrew belonging to the part of each service.

The following bills were read and (approved) ordered paid Capital Gas Co. 5.15 Day & Joy printing 3.60 Union of Am. H. Congregations 20.00 Geo. B. Stack, repairing elect Bell 3.00 Rev. Abram Simon, Prayer Book .90 Secretary, stamps & Postal & advertising 2.30 To C. Flint from separate cem. funds 13.50 for Assistant cantor 40.00 Rabbi Simon, salary 150.00 Choir and Organist 20.00 M. Wilson, collector 50.00 Mr. Mohns 15.00 Total 323.45

The president stated that some of the members of the congregation asked him to engage an assistant and they would pay some portion of the expenses. And he so engaged Mr. Samuels at $40.00 and have 25.50 subscribed for it and asked the board to pay the difference. On motion it was ordered that the action of the president be approved.

The Board of Officers of the Congregation B'nai Israel met in the synagogue at 8:00 P.M. Mr. Albert Elkus, President, presiding.

Roll call, Treasurer Emil Steinman, School directors H. Weinstock and J. Anchell absent.

Minutes of last meeting read and approved. The chair appointed on the following committees. On Building: Samuel Lavenson, A. Bonheim & H. Fraley. Choir: H. Weinstock, L. Heilbron, W.S. Lavenson. Finances and Seats: E. Steinman, L. Heilbron & L. Salomon. Cemetery: L. Heilbron, S. Lavenson and J. Anchell.

The regular monthly salaries were allowed and warrants drawn on the Treasurer as follows Rabbi Simon 150.00 Col. M. Wilson 50.00 Mrs. Hanley, Organist 10.00 Mrs. Ross, singing in choir 10.00 Mohns, taking care of cemetery 15.00

The following bills were read and ordered paid Capital Gas Co. 6.30 H.M. Porter painting roof 16.00 [Note] S. Morris stationery .75 City, state and county taxe 43.50 M. Wilson for cutting wood 2.50

The president stated that he had instructed the secretary to notify under the seal of the congregation Mr. M. Wilson and Mr. N. Zemansky to appear before this board on this evening for conduct unbecoming in the house or in and in front of the synagogue on last Friday night. The president stated the case before the board, and on motion it was ordered that Mr. Wilson be called in and to be reprimanded by the board through Mr. Sam Lavenson for his conduct on that Friday evening. Said reprimand was carried out.

Mr. N. Zemansky communicated through letter that on account of his clerk not feeling well, he could not appear before the board.
