Two full-grown horses were killed -- that is, died in
two or three days after being badly clawed on the
chest and neck by a lion.

ridge under Adenostoma fasciculatum; ground hard.

wash under sage-bush.

(2, along pole fence); Linnet ( 2 -- scarce here);
Western Lark Sparrow (a pair in flight over mesa);
Western Gnatcatcher (3 in sage-brush and other dry
brush); Bush-tit (one bunch of fully 18, in brush
over low hills - 3 shot as above); Bewick Wren, (3)
green-backed Goldfinch (2).
