Brother John,
I write you a few lines to say that we are all as well as usual, and hope this may find you all the same. as I have not heard from you for some days I take it for granted that your Children are getting better which I hope is the case. My Love to Mother and to your family. I think I promised you that I would make up a Statement of Our Brother's Estate and in order to do so and bring everything to a close to the first of January 1859. I have credited the Estate with the amt. [amount] taken by me of (Personal Effects) $338.75¢ and taken by you $199.44¢ and by Elizabeth $284.37¢ – and have charged back the amt [amount] to yourself and Elizabeth – I have then made up the a/c [account] to the first of January last and the amount now in my hands belonging to the Estate after making up the Interest to that date is $24,745.48¢ –
