Bachtal Humbert Family

ReadAboutContentsHelp
Bachtal/Humbert Family correspondence includes letters to and from members of the family dating January 1864 to September 1871. The letters discuss family concerns such as health and babies and the news of the death of a brother, Ervin, as a result of a blasting accident. Current prices are mentioned and such local events as the finding of a large gold nugget by John Spayth and the robbery and murder of two men, Joseph Kile and James Cooper, at a toll house on the South Yuba River. There is also a description of the observances in Nevada City following the assassination of Abraham Lincoln. **Please note that historical materials in this Collection may include viewpoints and values that are not consistent with the values of the California State Library or the State of California and may be considered offensive.
