I am feeling a little better
than this morning it is a beautiful
day on the lake and we
have got Some peaches and
cherries. I have just been over
to see my patient she is doing
nicely. All the people are terribly
afraid it is mumps. It must
cost these people an awful lot
to travel in such places as this
I think a man would save
money to bring all his provisions
from S. F. San Francisco even his boots as they
charge so for everything.

I have written all the news
in this letter and I am afraid
I wont [won't] have any thing [anything] more for
a month. They are going to
shoot at a target out in the
lake in a few minutes. (These army
men are different from any other kind I
ever met. They talk about guns and
the war all the time when they are
not sleeping and drinking toddies
They Sincerely believe that whiskey
is the Elixir of Life and that it does
a man good makes him strong
and prolongs life. They take it
at all hours and like to drink together
or "join" one another as they say
