Collected a day and evening down the Rapti Valley, a thinly popu-
lated valley which has largely escaped the saw and plough. There are, nevertheless, large plots of cleared or partially cleared land on the valley floor which men grow mustard seed and other crops. The hills have been disturbed least of all and remain covered densely with a forest of large trees (Sal and others). We collected mostly on the valley floor near the foot of the hills, either in the forest, in the tall grass and shrubs near the river, or along the sandy river bank itself. The weather during the day was warm and sunny. Camp located at the edge of the stream so that the light drew from the forest as well as the water. A cool breeze came up not long after nighfall, however, and collecting was quite slow.
EL. 400 meters 1500 specimens
