STOP 287 - THAILAND: 8 MI. S.E.
SARABURI, 100 M.,
VII-28-62
800 specimens.

Take the highway south from
Saraburi toward Bangkok, turn
off on a small road to the temple
on the cliff at PHRA BUDDHA
CHAI, and continue along this
track to its end at a forestry
nursery are in a small amphi-
theater valley among low hills.
Here there are two waterfalls,
TONE RAK SAI and SAM LAN,
each in its own little canyon.
Much of the vegetation is secondary
& disturbed, though some of the
area looks pretty good. Much
of the growth in the hills is
very dense and tangled. Bamboo,
tall grass, and underbush
are common. Some slopes have
been cleared for banana
plantations, etc. Area rather
dry at this time of the year,
though water still runs in
the streams. Many good collecting
trails traverse the hills and
insect collecting is good.

Weather hot and humid and
still. Black light collecting
in the little valley at the
end of the road was fair;
evening was clear and warm.

STOP 288 - THAILAND: BANPE,
13 MI. E RAYONG 2M
VII-31-62
50 spec.

Camp in grassy dunes behind
the beach in this pretty spot
out on a point beyond the marine
station and village. Pandanus,
coconut palms, mangos, and
bamboo-lantana scrub are the
principle plants behind the
beach at the foot of the hills.
Better growth occurs on the
hills but it is almost
impenetrable. Weather cool
and windy.
