1847 Feby 1st Memorandum of an agreement made & entered between J. W. Graves & Benj. F. Lain both of Pittsya County Va Wheras the said Lain has agreed to do Carpentry work for said Graves, and the said Graves agrees to pay the said Lain 3/- pr. day for every day the said Lain shall work. Given under hands this the date & year above written

Memorandums of the number of Bushels of Wheat, myself & Overseer has used.

I have sent to mill he says 3 Bushels Overseer has sent to mill 3 Bushels.

Augst 8th I have sent 2 3/4 Bushels & let Henry have 3 picks making 3 1/2 Bushels of that Machined - 3 1/2

20th Overseer Carried himself Bus. 2 1/2 Bushels Wheat ––––––

29 I sent for myself 2 1/2 Bus. for flour Trod [Hast] 2 1/2

Sept 20th sent for myself 2 1/2 Bus to eat Machine 2 1/2 ma. 26 sent to Fariss by Jacob for myself for flour Do. 1 ma. Sept 30 Sent to Millers by London for myself to eat Do. 2 1/2 mac. 1851 Feby 1st let Mr James P Lewis have 1 Plank 14 feet Long 12 Inches square Edged ^wide & 2 Do Bark Edged 17. Inches wide & 11 feet Long to make negro man Isaacs coffin who Died this morning

Feby 3rd Raining this morning striped Tobacco awhile & then we halled leaves all day after weather more moderate had 4 or 5 very cold days 6thLambs to this day lost only one —

6th cutting in new ground all hands yesterday or day before Halled shucks Fodder & Oats beautifull weather to day ——

7th Plowing in fresh field. Jane & alse in new & childrenground Henry overseer Fed & myself went to Raise school House

8th Henry gone to Mr Parham Lewis s to Roll Logs Fed & overseer gone to school House Jane alse & Jordan gone to new ground.— Fine weather weather warm ———

9th Went to Meeting tolerable good day

10. Raining a little, taking down Tobacco & striping in middle Barn — Rainy evening F.WF. & Cate gone with her homethis morning Weather warm Jacob gone to bring horse home Made John D Hunt a Deed for Land near him JW Odaniel here cleaning & fixing Turner clock for which I gave him $1 - Raining hard took down all our Tobacco to strip

13th Plowing & malling, began to mall yesterday yesterday I went to Mrs McCullocks set up 2 Hhd & went to Chalk Level

14th Fed gone to mill 1 Bbl Corn 1 Bbl wheat we are striping Tobacco in middle Barn. Bets Bull calf came 13th- 10 Lambs to this time ^alivelost 6 Raining this morning The 11th I went to finish school house card Fed with Did not finish & give [Ditchie?] Jacob 9¢ Grasty 9¢ & Hendrick 1/6 making 50¢ in all to finish chimny 12th

28 Finished the Lot except Branch yesterday to day cutting on Branch & in new ground -

29th Sent Fed to Mill this morning 6 Bushels Wheat 2½ Bus. corn beautifull weather Began to Cut Tobacco in fresh ground this morning cutting Tops in morning Finished Stacking Blade fodder, put up 16 stacks one in House - fine weather —

30 Cutting Tobacco in fresh ground yesterday cut there to day we cut & Hung there

Oct 1st Stacking 1st stack First Cuttingtops, & gatheing Rice Beans

2 Finished Stack & gather Peas fine weather

3. fine day went to Mrs McCullocks

4- Fixing to Stack 2nd Stacks tops worming & Succoring tobacco & succorin like for Rain

5. cleared off we are stacking the other topsstack this morning clear fine weather at this

6th succoring & worming & Housing prize House of Tobacco 7th Finished & sent for my yearlings at McHaneysMrs

8 Cutting & Halling up fresh ground corn gathering Rice Beans cotton Peas etc etc clear & fair weather warm —

9th clouded up & looks like for rain Halling up corn after filing fresh ground Barn with fine Tobacco in the evening Rain all tho Tobacco we have cut in new ground Barn –

This is what we have to pay for 1858 March 16 went to Riceville & got the Hhd of midling bot by Barber & Thompson & paid for 728 lbs & it weighed here exactly the same as it on Hdd including freight & Drayage Halled by T. W Anderson @

Halling ——— Fencing around Corn field fence & Planted Irish Potatoe Patch & Plowing this day Jerry started to school to Mr Boyd ineveningyesterday the 16th March 1858 - fine weather —

17th Treading out oats to sew to day Jordan & Buck halling Rails at new ground till 12 Oclock cleaning out tranches on Branch, & fencing on Cross fence in field & helping about Oats when wanted —

18th Jacob carrid 2423 Bus. Oats, we are Plowing Jordan Halling wood & Rails at overseers Fencing around Corn field

18th Sallie started to School to Miss Bettie Nunnelle at Mr Lewis,

19 Sold our Tag Tobacco to Thos W Anderson by Jno Singleton @ 5$ cash.

May 9th Plowing & replanting Corn - 10 Same work Henry complaining put up Martin Box Glued Table etc etc
