May 22, 1846 - June 4, 1846
1846 Waggon got Back & at night a very May 22 hard rain indeed the Branch highest than I ever saw it. 23rd Thining corn & Planting Tobacco on Branch. 24, fine growing weather, very wet
25. Planting Second yrs ground Tobacco also above granary on Branch & nearly all the hills we have except lotts
26 Plowing in Corn, & in every Beding Lotts for Tobacco, 27 Planting Tobacco on Branch Plowing in corn
27 Preparing lot on Hill for Tobacco & expect to Plant it To day —
28 Rained hard yesterday evening so we Did not Plant Lot on Hill but planted it this evening & also planted watermellon seed —
29 Began to weed corn 28th in evening this day come another very hard rain ground too wet to do any thing butfor us toeat - corn worth $5 pr Bbl.
30th Plowed but little this day & wed little wheat
31 Rained again very wet time indeed
June 1st Sheared sheep Rained in evening
2 Did not rain to day Plowing half the day & replanted Tobacco —
3rd Plowing & weeding corn next to barn
4 Do Do & finished Plowing over on time Plowed & works Greens etc to day Mrs. Moseley up & expected here to day good warm growing weather no rain since Monday last.
June 5, 1846 - June 12, 1846
1846 June 5th weeding corn in big field, cloudy & Rained in evening
6th Plowing & Weeding corn this morning Beding Lot by Granary & want to Plant it to day — Planted said Lot this evening & all hands then went to corn field & the foulest I ever had in my life Red Heifer had a calt last night
7 Rained in evening a little
8 Plowing & weeding corn in Big field next to woods
9th This morning raining & rained nearly all night, Rainy day all day &nowork done out at all quite cool —
10th Still raining & cool, doing but little replanting Tobacco etc etc
11th Raining yet such a spell of wet never was Known since my day quite cool — — —
12 Raining & every day this week since Monday last no work done in corn field of consequence - Trimed a little Tobacco down - second yrs Land & lot — never was Known so wet a spring & 1st summer by the oldest among us all May & up to this time, great deal of corn drowned - 10 Oclock, Raining very hard some wind & cool, ground in a complete float of water - 12 Oclock powerful fresh Tobacco overflowed
June 13, 1846 - June 22, 1846
1846 June 13th. Rained all night Branch high Two or Three times yesterday & last night spining, sho[e]making & making basket - all in house wind has been N. E. all this week - quite cool=
14th Rained again last night very hard & We have done no work since last Monday nearly a week - still cloudy wind N.E. yet
14 cloudy last Rained very hard, in the evening of this day it cleared off
15th This morning cloudy & foggy & We are about to commence plowing laying by our corn thats drilled
16 Raining last night & again this evening & stop us work I never saw such a corn field in my life & not much more than ½ done windy
17th Cutting mountain field wheat to day
18 Rained this evening Laying by corn in evening & weeding —
19 Cutting wheat this morning in second yrs ground — had 3 calves to this day went Plowing & weeding corn finished Plowing Big field this evening before it Rained
20th Rained last evening ground too wet to Plow & we are doing but little — at 12 Oclock laying by corn & finished this evening weeding big field —
21st Fair day & cool. Meeting at S.S.
22nd Laying by & weeding this side branch below cow pen Plowing cotton etc etc.
June 23, 1846 - June 29, 1846
1846 June 23 This morning quite & finish =ing Plowing & weeding fresh ground allmost ruined with grass & wet etc. weather quite cool last Rain we had was last Friday — — I expect to send to Mill Mill sent to mill — cloudy to night & weather a little warmer
June 24th Plowing & weeding corn cut Lots wheat at 12 Oclock Plowing Cotton Sweet & Irish Potatoes & Hilling them up
25 Fair day & moderate, trying to get done Plowing & weeding corn to day Pompey foundered & cant Plow
26 Cutting wheat at Stony Point today Finished at 12 Oclock Bot 5 Bbls corn at Mrs M Stones sale last fall at $525, 5 Bbls Do in Lynchg at $3.70 Mrs Hunt gave me 1 Bbl which comes in good time as we are laying by Our corn & our corn nearly out
27th Weeding out Branch Tobacco today sent to shop layed by all corn this side branch
29th Laying by corn & weeding Tobacco on Branch sent for Doct. Thompson for alse
