1865 July 25 Prising tobacco & finished cutting & malling Pine wood. dry hot weather went to Keens depot to see about Est negroes & Lynch [unclear] on stealing corn & tobacco. Sally Jacob & Pleas all Guilty
26. Richard made Martin Box, cutting & malling wood in woods. Cleaned up around corn House & stables etc. —
27. Jacob Sally & Pleas. gone to CH Bill has been gone about a week left his Father & Mother & no help for them but to leave I went to CH today. Jacob Sally & Pleas I heard just before I was about to leave they were all at Mr Tredways The Provost Marshall Capt. Angeline went forthwith after them & said he would punch them, what he will do I know not Cutting & malling wood —same 28th Claiborne halling —
29th Cleaning up Ditch on Creek I went to plantation
30. Beautifull rain last night & fine showers going round hope it will rain again to day.
July 31, 1865 - August 3, 1865
1865 July 31st Rained nearly all night Raining this morning. Lord make us thankfull for thy mercies Picking our wool to day 18 Rained tremendous hard & wind from N.E. cloudy damp weather
Aug. 1st 1865. Sow ground over plowed but corn not improved much Plowed turnip patch, Picking wool Henry sick yesterday & last week some person killed my lamb in the field Mr. Hunts Estate negroes refused to stay on plantation longer than next Christmas
2nd. Henry sick yet. Little Henry & Sally Ben cleaning up on Far Branch, [A?] gone to Mr. Hunts made 1 bus. corn carried & got 1 Bb. corn offer Jacob @ $5 pbbl.
3rd. Cleaning up on Branch Henry not out yet. Sewed turnip patch after 12 oclock warm day.
August 4 - 5, 1865
1865 August 4. Working in the garden to day - Henry has not come out yet. 14 sheep 17 yearling hogs Sow 6 shoats & Sallys hogs in field towards fresh ground Big sow & 2 pigs in rye lot Sent a ps bacon [unclear] to Aspen Grove by Lowry. Jerry [had?] up a load of apples tobacco etc got Leather from Starkey Due me & Estate JDH
5. working in garden did not finish to yesterday did not rain much yesterday fine growing weather Crops of corn very likely my wife, Benedict & Doran all gone to Mr DR Hunts Henry at work on buggy finish Garden about 12 oclock Saturday.
August 6 - 11, 1865
1865. August 6th. Went to meeting at EdgeHill to day — Rained hard this evening about night, very angry looking cloud
7 sent to Mr. Hunts place for Hhd to put apples in put up apple mill Halled load rails & 1 load Litewood, - cleaning up on branch far field for corn -
8 - Grinding apples from Aspen Grove, shrubing Sally & Richard got back to day —
9th. I went to shop got Bill shod before new shoes. I found Iron Pinted old shoes & put on behind,
10th. Sent Robin shod new shoes before old behind Henry getting board to day I went to Gran Field today great revival up there meeting been going 2 weeks. One of my sheep gone last night, making 2 thats killed here
11th Working on road to day
August 12 - 19, 1865
1865 Aug. 12 Went meeting at S. Stone, finished getting boards & then shrubing on branch.
13th. I staid at home balance all went to meeting S. Stone Edgehill Jerry & Pride went to Greenfield — cool night
14th Went to S. Stone meeting shrubing for corn. Raining last night a little —
15. Going to meeting to day myself Fannie is [unclear] about negroe Fannie I have told her to go home etc. Rained a little last night
16th went to meeting to day cleaning up for corn on Far Branch —
17th worked on road today 1/2 day cleaning up on branch
18th Rained yesterday & to day Raining hard. doing but little, - Hobbled Bull a day or two ago — sent for Fan yesterday evening —
19th Fixing chimney to house Henry gone to Millers [?]
