Reginald Robinson was born at Christchurch on the 13th May 1916. He received his secondary education at the Christchurch Technical College. For a number of years before applying for enlistment in aircrew, on the 21st September 1939 he was employed as a fishmonger in Christchurch.
Sergeant Robinson was enlisted at the Initial Training Wing, Levin on the 28th July 1940 and posted to the Training Squadron at Ohakea late the following month for training as an air gunner. Here on the 21st September he was awarded the Air Gunner badge and promoted to the rank of Sergeant. He embarked late in November by the "Mataroa" for the United Kingdom.
Sergeant Robinson arrived at No. 1 Depot, Uxbridge, Middlesex on the 30th November and joined No. 256 Squadron at Cosford, Staffordshire early the following month for operational flying. He took part in a number of flights over enemy territory, and on one occasion was required to bale out, landing safely by parachute. For this exploit he was awarded the Caterpillar badge.
Sergeant Robinson was killed during an enemy air-raid on London during the night of the 16/17th April 1941, when the club in which he was staying received a direct hit by and enemy bomb. He was buried in the Royal Air Force Regional Cemetery, Brookwood, Surrey.
